Description: The New Graduate Nurse Orientation Program is designed for the newly graduated nurse who has successfully passed the NCLEX exam and has never worked as a nurse or who has less than 9 months of experience as an RN. Over the course of the orientation, the new graduate RN will participate in educational sessions designed to support the development of critical thinking, professional practice behaviors, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, clinical judgment and knowledge augmentation in a high-tech, acute care environment. New graduates are partnered with preceptors who have experience in practice and are trained in the Vermont Nursing Internship Program and Competency Outcomes and Performance Assessment (VNIP/COPA) preceptor models. New RN graduates will orient on one unit and will be expected to work 40 hours per week on a varying schedule that may include evening and night shifts for the length of the program.
