Albany Can Code is growing! Alaant is pleased to be partnering with Albany Can Code in its search for a Job Placement Advisor. The Job Placement Advisor assists the Albany Can Code Program Managers in engaging with students and providing them support and career counseling while they are taking AlbanyCanCode classes.
Albany Can Code's mission is to shift the mindset about who can work in technology by creating pathways to join the tech economy. We do this by building a more inclusive and vibrant tech pipeline through inclusive instruction & programs, collaborating with educators and partnering with the Capital Region's tech employers.
What you'll do: Attend assigned classes in an effort to get to know the students - their backgrounds, their employment history and goals, and any challenges that they are facing in and outside of the classroom. The goal of this role is to successfully provide guidance to students in their job searches.
Attend assigned classes once a week (6 hours a week)
Observe the students in assigned classes, and be aware of their progress in class
Evaluates and understands each student's background, skills, and interests to properly prepare them for appropriate job searches
Coordinate with Program Managers and Class Instructors to provide support for students and to handle issues in the classroom
Assess students' strengths and weaknesses and help them create a plan to meet their career goals.
Assist students with resume critiques, mock interviews and job applications
Holds regular one on one meetings with students throughout the course of the semester and as needed following the conclusion of classes
Coaches student for interviews by providing background information regarding potential employers and the specific job/internship
Assist Albany Can Code Program Managers in recommending students for potential employment opportunities
Consults with students and employers or program managers after interviews to gather feedback and maximize placement opportunities.
Develops and maintains records of training, placements, and interview results; uses this data to continually modify and improve the placement service.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to identify job openings throughout the community
Increases contacts in the community through active participation in various associations
Reviews reputable websites, local newspapers, and statewide business papers to identify new employers entering the area

What you'll bring to Albany Can Code:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify strengths and weaknesses.
Basic understanding of vocational assessment and counseling techniques with excellent interpersonal skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Bachelor's degree in Social Services, Business, Human Services, or related field preferred
At least 1 or more years of related experience
